Foley's Three Goals Lead Field Hockey in 6-0 Win Against Colby

Box Score

Claire Foley MEDFORD – Claire Foley scored three goals, Reegan McCluskey had two and Gillian Roeca and Melissa Manzello each finished with two assists as the third-ranked Tufts field hockey team defeated Colby College 6-0 in a NESCAC game at Ounjian Field on Tuesday night.

The Jumbos (10-2, 7-1 NESCAC) wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Beth Krikorian broke up a Colby attempt to clear, and the ball deflected to Schuyler Edie who zipped a quick pass left to Foley. Her shot from the edge of the circle eluded the right-pad save attempt by Colby goalie Hattie Baker just 47 seconds into the game.

Colby (5-7, 1-7) would get its only shot on goal in the game next, which Jumbo starting keeper Andie Stallman kicked away.

Tufts would take a 2-0 lead on a corner when McCluskey's blast from the left side of the circle after Manzello's insert went between Baker's legs almost eight minutes into the first.

Seven minutes into the second period, Roeca's turn-around shot from the left side was saved by Baker. However, freshman Kylie Rosenquest was on the spot to tap in the rebound and Tufts led 3-0. The Jumbos went to half with advantages of 12-1 in shots and 4-0 on corners.

A minute into the third, Rosenquest stole and ball from a Colby defender in the Mules' end and fed Roeca. From the right side of the circle, she fired a pass through the goal area to Foley on the left side of the cage for her second of the game.

Colby's Marian Searby would make two defensive saves within seconds of each other during a Jumbo corner opportunity later in the third keeping the score at 4-0.

Tufts added two more in the fourth. McCluskey scored from Manzello on a corner that was identical to the first goal that they shared. Later on a corner inserted by Roeca, Krikorian dribbled into the right half of the circle and found Roeca out front where she pushed the ball along to Foley who was at the left post to score her hat trick.

The shutout, shared by Stallman (one save) and Sam Gibby, was the third in a row and eighth of the year for Tufts. Baker finished with nine saves in the Colby goal. Tufts had a 22-1 shots advantage and 10-0 on corners.

The game was played in memory of Madie Nicpon, the Tufts women's lacrosse player who passed away unexpectedly on October 16.
