Tonight, Tufts scored on the first shot of the game 6:24 into the action. Senior Sophie Schoeni (pictured) sent a pass from well outside the 25-yard line that zipped through the defense to classmate Gillian Roeca in the circle. Roeca held her shot as charging Polar Bear goalie Maddie Ferrucci went to the ground, then she lifted the ball over Ferrucci into the cage for a 1-0 Tufts lead. The goal was Roeca's 10th of the year.
The Jumbos had a strong opportunity to go up by two later in the first. After an interception by Rachel Scrivanich, senior Claire Foley took the ball along the left goal line and tried to sneak a shot inside the left post. Ferrucci kicked it away.
Bowdoin tied the score on a corner less than three minutes into the second quarter. The insert by Caroline Higgins was blasted home by Manveer Sandhu from the top left of the circle.
Foley blocked a pair of shots by Bowdoin on consecutive corners with seven minutes remaining until halftime. At the other end, Roeca sent a hard back-hand shot just wide left and a shot by Tufts junior Reegan McCluskey off a corner was blocked.
The host Polar Bears scored on another corner with 1:11 remaining until halftime, as Bailey Prete deflected a high shot to the ground and inside the left post.
Bowdoin dominated the third quarter, taking four shots and earning five corners while allowing the Jumbos nothing. The hosts extended their lead to 3-1 with a series of shots during a corner. After Tufts junior Sam Gibby made two saves, Polar Bear Jill Cloonan cleaned up the rebound with a minute left in the third.
The Polar Bear defense continued to do a good job thwarting Tufts' advances until three minutes remained in the fourth quarter when the Jumbos earned a corner. A McCluskey shot was batted away by Ferrucci and Bowdoin soon closed out the victory.
