BOSTON - Junior Alex Lemieux of the Tufts University men's track & field team broke the school record in the 60-meter dash at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener hosted by Boston University on Saturday.
Lemieux's time of 6.96 seconds in the preliminaries was just 0.01 off the previous school mark of 6.95 seconds set by Blake Coolidge in 2017. One of nine competitors at the meet to make it to the 60 final, Lemieux then ran 6.86 seconds to break Coolidge's record. Lemieux was third at the meet, and it's the #3 time in the nation very early in the 2021-22 indoor season.
Also at BU today, sophomore Luke Botsford ran a time of 33.88 seconds in the 300 meters. In the rare event, it's the fastesy time in Division III history for the 300. He placed third out of 35 finishers in the event, just 0.72 off the winning time of 33.16 by Southern Connecticut State University's Nigel Green.
Tufts is off now until hosting their first invitational of the indoor season at the Gantcher Center on January 15.
