NEW LONDON, Conn. - Three strong performances in the 800 meters highlighted the Tufts University men's track & field team's 316-146 dual meet victory at Connecticut College on Sunday. Head coach Joel Williams' team was back in action for the first time since March 2020.
In an all-Tufts race, sophomore Evan Ensslin won the 800 with a 1:54.99 finish that ranked 28th nationally as of Sunday afternoon. He was followed by freshmen Jackson O'Toole and Walter Wagude in their collegiate debuts. O'Toole's 1:55.15 ranks 32nd in DIII and Wagude is at #46 with his 1:55.89 mark in Connecticut.
Junior Riley Patten ran 56.47 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles for another Jumbo national top 40 mark (37th). Sophomore Carter Rosewell got into the top 50 with his winning mark of 22'1 ½" (6.74m) in the long jump.
Tufts won all three of the throwing events that they entered, including two by senior co-captain Dylan Daisey. He posted a 112-3" (34.21m) discus and a 112'0" (34.13m) in the hammer throw. Freshman Louis Tuccio's 43'0 ½" (13.12m) won the shot put.
Freshman Luke Botsford had a solid 49.72 victory in the 400 meters. The 4x4 of freshmen Reid Corless, Jack Clohisy and Brian Kwarteng along with junior Jack Hirsch in the third spot ran the top time of 3:29.68.
Track & field action will return to Tufts next Sunday when the Jumbos host Connecticut College, Trinity and Wesleyan.
