MEDFORD - Freshman Luke Botsford ran a pair of strong times in the 200 and 400 meters on Sunday when the Tufts University men's track & field team won a home quad meet at Ellis Oval / Dussault Track.
Botsford won both events, timing 21.92 seconds in the 200 and 48.95 seconds in the 400. His time in the 200 was ranked 25th for Division III as of early Sunday evening. He also entered the national top 30 with his 400 mark.
Tufts totaled 239.5 points to win the meet. Trinity College was second with a score of 132, followed by Wesleyan University in third (124.5). Connecticut College placed fourth scoring 98.
This was the first outdoor meet hosted by the Jumbos since April 2019.
Other Tufts freshmen were noteworthy. Harry Rienecker-Found also showed national potential with a winning 6'4 ¾" (1.95m) clearance in the high jump. It's a top 40 effort for Division III early on. Reid Corless won the 400-meter hurdles (57.96) and had Tufts' top triple jump at 42'0 ¾" (12.82m). Louis Tuccio won the six-man shot put event with a best of 44'5 ½" (13.55m).
Botsford also led off the Jumbo 4x4 that scored 10 first-place points with their 3:25.31 mark. He was followed by Marcus Hardy, Alex Lemieux and Andrii Campbell. First-place points were also scored by senior Peter Horvath in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:00.11).
Sophomore Jack Clohisy clocked a career-best 16.47 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles, and classmate Evan Ensslin ran 4:03.94 in his first collegiate 1,500.
