GREENSBORO, N.C. - Freshman Luke Botsford of the Tufts University men's track & field team competed at the 2021 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships at the Irwin Belk Complex today.
Running in the preliminaries of the 400-meter hurdles, Botsford finished in 48.42 seconds. He was not one of the eight qualifiers for Saturday's final. His mark was less than a half-second off the final qualifying time of 47.95 submitted by sophomore Caden Pearce from Wisconsin-LaCrosse. Botsford was third out of five in his heat.
Botsford was the only New England competitor in the race. Placing 13th overall, he was second among Northeast entries.
The national qualifying berth capped a strong freshman season for Botsford, who also plays football at Tufts. He won 11 races in the 200, 400 and with the 4x400- relay this spring.
