MEDFORD - Sophomore Alex Lemieux and freshman Luke Botsford teamed up for some strong times in the long sprints today as the Jumbo men's track & field team hosted the Tufts Invitational at Ellis Oval / Dussault Track.
In the 200 meters, Lemieux's time of 21.70 seconds placed second and is ranked 23rd in Division III as of Saturday night. Botsford was nearly as fast, finishing in 21.79 for third place and #30 in the nation.
Botsford took the lead in the 400, winning the 10-man race in 48.85 seconds. That ranks 43rd nationally. Lemieux was the runner-up in the race with a 49.29 finish.
The Jumbos were very good in that event grouping today. Sophomore Evan Ensslin's 3:54.01 for third place in the 1,500 meters is #29 on the national list. Senior Aiden Lewis also won the 800 meters with a career-best 1:54.27 finish.
Senior Peter Horvath was five seconds faster than his PR and almost 20 seconds better than the team's previous season-best in posting a 9:41.18 for the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the meet. Junior Ben Stein hit a PR in the javelin throw with a 155'2" (47.29) launch.
Sophomore Hunter Farrell tied for first place (no jump-off) with 14'3 ¼" (4.35m) pole vault clearance that is a Tufts 2021 best. Junior Alexander Zsikla's 43'4 ¼" (13.21m) triple jump was also a top Tufts mark in the event this year. Freshman Louis Tuccio's 114'11" (35.03m) effort in the discus throw was his best of the season.
The Jumbos will hit the road for Williams College and a meet including Middlebury College next Saturday.
