Men's Track and Field

Lemieux, Botsford Achieve Sprint Success at BU Sunday

BOSTON - Sprinters Alex Lemieux (pictured) and Luke Botsford represented the Tufts men's indoor track & field team well at Boston University's John Thomas Terrier Classic on Sunday, recording three national top 20 times.

Lemieux broke the school record in the 200 meters, running a 21.66 on BU's banked track for fifth place among 108 Division I, II and III competitors at the meet.. It erases the 21.91 by Anthony Karondonsky from 2018 and Graham Beutler from 2014 in the Jumbo record book. It's the 23rd-fastest time in the event in Division III history. Converted due to the banked track, Lemieux's new mark should be top five nationally for the season.

This was the second school record of the season for Lemieux and third of his career. He broke the indoor 60-meter dash mark back in December with a time of 6.86 seconds. Last spring, he set a new outdoor 200 meters record with a 21.70 mark.

Botsford was also in the 200 and ran a 21.92 for ninth place at the meet. It was just 0.01 off the previous Tufts record. The converted mark should be top 20 nationally. He also ran the 400 and timed 49.16 for 10th place out of 76 entries. The converted mark should be top 15 in DIII.

Also on Sunday at BU, Sam Gatti led three Jumbos who ran the 3,000 with an 8:40.84 PR.
