MEDFORD, MA (October 31, 2022) – The Tufts University Field Hockey team will continue its New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Tournament on Saturday afternoon, at Middlebury College at 1:30 PM. They are the No. 2 seed and will face the No. 3 seed Trinity College Bantams.

The Jumbos picked up a 1-0 win over the No.7 seed Bates College Bobcats at home on Saturday to advance in the NESCAC Tournament.
Reegan McCluskey scored the only goal of the game in the third quarter and the defense led by
Sam Gibby held strong in the fourth quarter to preserve the shutout win. The win was the fifth in a row for the Jumbos over the Bobcats which includes a 2-1 earlier this season.
Tufts will now turn its attention to the No.3 seed Trinity College Bantams. The Jumbos defeated Trinity earlier this season on October 2
nd at home 2-0 with goals by
Reegan McCluskey and
Ashley Zolin. The Jumbos are currently on an eight-game winning streak against Trinity dating back to 2014. The last time the two teams faced each other in a NESCAC Tournament game was back in 2015 when Tufts defeated Trinity 2-0 at home.
Trinity defeated Bowdoin College 2-0 at home on Saturday to advance in the NESCAC Tournament. The Bantams are led by Katrina Winfield who has 11 goals on the season which is tied for sixth in the conference and her 25 points is tenth in the conference. Also on offense for Trinity is Caelin Flaherty who seven goals and 23 points. In goal is junior Olivia McMichael, who has recorded a .88 goals against average on the season, which is third in NESCAC, and a save percentage of .823 which leads the conference and is 14th nationally.
Tufts is led by senior
Reegan McCluskey who leads the team with nine goals and 21 points. In the Jumbos last game against Bates, she recorded the only goal. Her nine goals tie her for 11
th in the conference. She has four game winning goals on the season which is tied for first in the conference. As a team, the Jumbos are fourth in the NESCAC with 116 corners and are averaging 7.25 corners a game. In goal for Tufts is senior
Sam Gibby who's tied for first in the NESCAC with five shutouts on the season. She has 62 saves on the year and her save percentage of .756 is third in the NESCAC.
In the other semifinal game at 11am is host Middlebury taking on Williams. Middlebury defeated Williams at home on October 25
th 4-1. Audrey Lazar scored two goals for the Panthers. Emily Batchelor scored for the Ephs, her 19
th of the season, which leads the NESCAC and is tied 17
th nationally.
Middlebury enters the contest with a 15-1 record and a 9-1 conference record. The Panthers have four players that have scored double digit goals, with all having 20 or more points. They are second in the country with 85 goals on the season for an average of 5.31 goals per game. Sophomore Amy Griffin leads Middlebury with 16 goals and 43 points on the season. Her 43 points leads the conference and is tied for 22
nd nationally. She is 19
th nationally with a point per game average of 2.69 and in her last five games has nine points with three goals and three assists. In goal for Middlebury is Senior Grace Harlan who has a .81 goals against average which is first in the conference and 11
th nationally. The Panthers are the number three team in the country when it comes to corners with 203 on the season and are averaging 12.69 a game.
The final team in the NESCAC Tournament is the No.5 seed Williams Ephs. Williams enters the NESCAC semifinal with a 12-4 overall record and 6-4 NESCAC record. The Ephs went on the road to start there NESCAC Tournament and defeated Amherst 2-1 on Saturday. Kiki Higgins scored her seventh goal of the season with 12 seconds left in the game to put Williams ahead after Amherst tied the game just four minutes beforehand. On offense it is Batchelor who leads Williams as she has 19 goals on the season and 42 points. Her average of 2.62 points per game is second in the conference and 22
nd nationally. In goal is senior Carson Stephenson, who has recorded a .813 goals against average and .759 save percentage which is second in the conference for both categories.
