Svoboda Shines as Men's Track & Field Competes at MIT

CAMBRIDGE – The Tufts University men's indoor track & field team competed in the Gordon Kelly Invitational at MIT on Saturday. There was no team scoring at the event.

Drew Svoboda (pictured) finished in first place in the long jump with a 22'3 ¾" (6.80m) mark, and also finished tied for first place in the high jump as well, with a 6'4 ¾ "(1.95m) mark. The high jump is a PR and ranks #47 nationally for Division III.

Senior Alex Zsikla also competed in the long jump, finishing in sixth place with a 20'11 ¾" (6.39m) mark. Senior Tommy Bhangdia finished in eighth place in the long jump with a 20'10" (6.35m) mark. Chris Deschenes (19'1 ½"), Nik Karns (18'10 ¾") and Cole Anderson (16'7") also competed in the long jump for the Jumbos.

Freshman Edward Kiboma also competed in the high jump event for the Jumbos, finishing in seventh place with a 6'0 ¾" mark. Senior Ben Stein finished in 12th place in the high jump (5'8 ¾").

Freshman Naheim Washington finished in fourth place in the triple jump, earning a 39'2 ¼" (11.94m) mark and was the only Jumbo to compete in the event.

In the 60-meter dash, Zsikla finished in eighth place with a time of 7.35. Junior Joe Pizzi finished the race in 17th place with a time of 7.73.

Freshman Jackson Kiefer was the only Jumbo to compete in the 600-meter race, earning fourth place with a time of 1:29.79.

In the pole vault event, junior Hunter Farrell finished tied for 10th place with a 13'5 ¼" (4.10m) mark. Stein finished in 14th place with a 12'9 ½" (3.90m) mark and junior Jackson Hemphill finished tied for 17th with a height of 12'1 ½" (3.70m).

In the throwing events, Petey Lemmon finished the shot put in seventh place with a 47'9 ¾" (14.57m) mark and Louis Tuccio finished in 12th place with a 44'11" (13.69m) mark. Freshman Matthew Carey (41'10 ¾") and junior George Moraites (35'8") also competed in the shot put. Eric Meyer was the top Jumbo in the weight throw event, finishing in 20th place with a mark of 42'4 ¾" (12.92m). Tuccio (40'10 ½") and Lemmon (37'10 ½") also competed in the weight throw for the Jumbos.

Next, the Jumbos will compete at the Springfield Invite event on Saturday, February 19.
