SPRINGFIELD - Nick Delaney won the 1,000 meters race to highlight the Tufts men's indoor track & field team's trip to Springfield College for the Triangle Classic on Saturday.
Delaney's winning time was 2:34.18 and he was followed by teammate Jackson O'Toole in second place with a 2:34.67 finish. Delaney had been working to come back from injuries and earns his first victory since April 2019 outdoors in the 800.
Josh Schwartz (pictured) had the best finish of his young career today with second place in the 800 meters (2:01.80). Walter Wagude, the Jumbos' All-Region cross country performer, had a third-place run in the mile this afternoon (4:27.13).
O'Toole and Schwartz were part of Tufts' first distance medley relay entry of the season, joined by Jack Taylor and Nate Oakes. They won a three-man race with a 10:43.35 time that snuck into the national top 50.
Anthony Bhangdia took third in the triple jump at 41'7 ¾ (12.69m) while also placing seventh in the long jump (20'6" / 6.25m). The Jumbos had two in the top five of a 25-man shot put field with Petey Lemmon fourth at 46'1 ½" (14.06m) and Louis Tuccio fifth with a 44'5 ¼" (13.54m) heave.
Naheim Washington ran a season-best 7.07 seconds for fifth place in the 60 final, as did James Johnson in the 3K (9:05.20). Andrii Campbell in the 600 (1:25.59) and Connor Giersch in the 5K (15:38.74) both had fourths.
Head coach Joel Williams' Jumbos start the championship season next weekend (Feb. 25-26) at the New England DIII meet hosted by Middlebury.
