HARTFORD – Senior Bailey Hyland and junior Samantha Gallo combined for 29 points to lead the Trinity College women's basketball team 60-42 over No. 7-ranked Tufts University on Friday night in Oosting Gymnasium.

Trinity wins its second straight conference game to improve to 13-4 overall and 5-1 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). The Jumbos are dealt just their third loss of the season, falling to 16-3 with a 5-2 mark in the conference.

Trinity started fast, jumping out to a 17-point lead and rattling off a 13-point run in the game's first 10 minutes of action. Hyland and Tori Varsamis each registered nine points in the first half powering the Bantams to a 21-point lead with Varsamis knocking down a three-pointer in the final few seconds of the second quarter. The largest lead for Trinity came with under two minutes to go in the third, when sophomore Reilly Campbell capped off a five-point Bantam burst with a bucket in the paint.

In the final frame, Tufts managed to cut the deficit to as little as 14 following an eight-point run that was propelled by a three-ball from Molly Ryan who then came up with a steal on the other end to create an opportunity for Callie O'Brien (pictured) to knock down a jumper in transition. In the final two minutes, Trinity closed out the game with six consecutive made free throws to put the Jumbos on ice and secure the upset victory over the ranked opponent.

O'Brien led the Jumbos with 11 points while Sofia Rosa recorded 10 on a team that shot just 22.6 percent (12/53) from the field. Gallo led all scorers with 15 points and chipped in eight rebounds and a steal while Hyland finished with 14 points, six boards, and one take-away.

Tufts continues their Connecticut road trip with a 3 pm game tomorrow at Connecticut College. The Bantams are back home in "The Coop" tomorrow afternoon for a 3 pm tip-off against Bates College.
