MEDFORD - Six Jumbos improved their national rankings as the men's indoor track & field team hosted the Tufts Cupid Challenge at the Gantcher Center on Saturday.
Alex Lemieux continued his stellar sprinting season, winning both the 60-meter dash in 6.87 seconds and the 200 meters in 21.85 seconds. The 60 mark ties the Gantcher facility record, and the 200 improves his national ranking in the event to third as of Saturday evening at 8:30 pm.
Luke Botsford lowered his 400-meter time by a tick to 49.94, which stands 16th in Division III. Drew Svoboda unleashed a 23'3 ¼" (7.09m) PR to win the long jump that moved into the national top 20 also at #16.
The Tufts 4x4 of Lemieux, Marcus Hardy, Sam Oomen-Lochtefeld and Botsford submitted a winning time of 3:26.16 that is a Jumbo best for 2022 and ranks 30th in DIII. An 8:13.58 by David Manning, Sam Gatti, Alex Friedman and Jackson O'Toole in the 4x800 relay was a team season-best. Gatti also ran an 8:35 3K that got into the national top 50 and is a Jumbo season-best mark.
The Jumbos welcomed back Nick Delaney (pictured) for the first time in almost two years, and his 2:34.38 in the 1,000 was the team's season-best and second in the race. In the 800, Jack Taylor's runner-up 1:58.39 was also the team's best of the season.
Carter Rosewell finished up the heptathlon today with a 4550 score that is #13 nationally. He scored 739 points with a 9.03 mark in the 60-meter hurdles on Saturday.
In the throwing events, veteran Dylan Daisey's 49'11" (15.21m) weight throw was a team season-best.
Today's meet did not include team scoring.
The Jumbos have meets at BU and MIT next weekend (Feb. 11-12).
