SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Sophomore Harry Rienecker-Found placed fifth in the high jump and classmate Luke Botsford ran Tufts' fastest 100 since 2019 on Friday when the Jumbos competed on the first day of the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships hosed by Bryant University.
Rienecker-Found cleared 2.00m (6'6 3/4") to score four points for the Jumbos, which has them in 18th place. He was first among Division III competitors at the meet featuring all divisions in the region.
Botsford's 10.76 time was the fastest by a Jumbo since Anthony Kardonsky set the school record of 10.70 in 2019. Botsford just missed qualifying for the eight-man final at the meet, with his 10.760 behind the 10.752 by eighth-place Zachary Fisher from Merrimack in the prelims.
Botsford did however qualify for tomorrow's final in the 200 meters with a time of 21.56 seconds which was third in the heats.
Freshman Jay Sharma also had a narrow miss for the Jumbos in the 400-meter hurdles, where his 55.43 was ninth in the prelims with a 54.70 by Kai Bailin from Trinity making the final as the eighth and final qualifier.
Senior Ben Stein (pictured) is in the decathlon at the meet and sits seventh after five events. He's tallied 3135 points and tied his PR in the 100 meters with an 11.80 time. The 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500 are tomorrow.
Day two action begins at 10 am on Saturday.
