BOSTON, MA (February 11, 2023) -- The Tufts University men's indoor track and field squad had a busy Saturday afternoon, sending squads to both the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational and the MIT Gordon Kelly Invitational. Furthermore, Tufts ran the distance medley relay Friday evening in the opening day of action at BU.
Friday night, the Jumbos had their DMR run at BU against a very strong field and finished 18th overall after
Jackson O'Toole,
Chris Tilton, Will Cusato and
Cullen McCaleb ran to a time of 10:08.53. The time was 25th best in Division III so far this season.
Saturday at MIT, Tufts sent a small group of mostly field athletes with the Jumbos running in the 60 hurdles, jumps and throws. In the hurdles,
Carter Rosewell finished fourth overall after running a 9.10 and
Cole Anderson ran a personal record with a 10.23.
In the high jump,
Harry Rienecker-Found cleared 2.02 meters on his second attempt to earn the win, while sophomore
Karsten Kropp posted a final mark of 1.92 meters for third place. Junior
Hunter Farrell and sophomore
Liam Garrison were eighth in the pole vault after clearing 4.00 meters.
In the long jump, junior
Drew Svoboda finished second after recording a distance of 6.44 meters on his first two jumps. Sophomore
Ryan Vu was third after posting a mark of 6.39 meters, and
Casey Lambert was fifth with a season-best 6.26 meter leap.
First-year
Sahr Matturi won the triple jump after recording a 13.47 on his second jump of the day. Sophomore
Petey Lemmon was seventh in the shot with a toss of 14.28 meters, and fellow sophomore
Louis Tuccio earned eighth after a heave of 14.14 meters.
Sophomore
Derek Schmaeling recorded a personal-best toss of 14.81 meters in the weight throw for sixth place, and
Eric Meyer was seventh with a mark of 14.60 meters.
Over at BU, the afternoon started with
Ryan Proulx finishing 53rd overall in the 5000 meter run after recording a 14:53.46, and
Luke Brennan took 80th overall with a 15:09.61. In the invited 60 hurdles,
Josh Wilkie ran an 8.67 while Cameron McLeod was 19th in the 60 hurdles after running a time of 8.83 seconds.
In the 60 meter dash,
Sam Nissen ran a 7.12 for 19th place, followed by
Amos Trinidad and his time of 7.16 seconds.
Sawyer Wilson the the Tufts' leader in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:53.96, and sophomore
Luke Botsford ran a 49.45 to pace Tufts in the 400 meter dash. Botsford was back on the track to finish 24th overall in the 200 meters with a time of 21.82, which put him into the Top 25 in Division III.
McCaleb ran in the mile Saturday and finished with Tufts best time of five runners, recording a 4:16.54.
Quinn Hampson was right behind him with a 4:19.48.
The Jumbos will be in action Saturday, February 18 at 10 a.m. at Springfield College for the Springfield Triangle Classic.
