BOSTON (February 24, 2023) -- Tufts University's
Carter Rosewell finished the first day of competition in the heptathlon as the leader Friday, highlight performances for the Tufts University men's track and field squad at the 2023 New England Indoor Track & Field Championships. The event is being held at The TRACK at New Balance.
Rosewell finished the first day with 2735 points, as he won the 60 meter dash and long jump, while taking fourth in the shot put and finishing as the runner-up in the high jump. He ran a 7.21 in the 60 meters to earn the win, and then followed with 697 points in the long jump after recording a mark of 6.50 meters.
In the shot put, Roswell recorded a final mark of 10.79 meters for 533 points, finishing the day with a 1.88 meter leap in the high jump to take seconds for 696 points. Teammate
Cole Anderson sits in 11th place after recording 2109 points on the first day.
In other action, first-year
Josh Wilkie won his heat with a collegiate-best time of 8.25 seconds to finish fourth overall in preliminaries to advance to Saturday's final. In the 60 meter dash,
Alex Lemieux was 11th in preliminaries with a time of 7.04, while
Sam Nissen was 14th in prelims after running a 7.08.
The DMR for Tufts finished sixth overall with a time of 10:08.12 to earn three points, as first-year
Cullen McCaleb teammates with sophomore
Chris Tilton, junior
Marcus Hardy and first-year
Quinn Hampson. Sophomore
Liam Garrison equaled his career-high of 4.49 meters to take ninth place, while
Louis Tuccio also tied his personal-best mark in the weight throw of 15.66 meters for 10th place.
In the long jump,
Drew Svoboda took 12th place after leaping to a mark of 6.57 meters, and first
Sahr Matturi recorded a mark of 6.56 meters for 13th place.
Tufts is in 18th place after the first day with three total points. Day two starts at 9 a.m. Saturday morning with the throwing events and continues all day at The TRACK at New Balance.
