SAN MARCOS, CA (March 25, 2023) -- The Tufts University men's and women's track squad competed at the 2023 Mangrum Invitational Friday on the campus of Cal State San Marcos, as the women had just
Hannah Neilon running while the men's squad had a slightly larger contingent on hand to run.
Neilon had a strong afternoon the for Jumbos, as she finished first overall in a very strong field of Division I and II runners in the 800 meters, running a solid 2:12.27 for the win. The time was just off her personal best, and is currently the best time in NCAA Division III early on in the season.
On the men's side,
Sawyer Wilson finished fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.95, while
Chris Tilton was 10th with a 1:57.84 and
Marcus Hardy ran a 1:58.29 for 11th place.
In the 1500 meters,
Walter Wagude crossed the line in 29th place after racing to a 4:02.53, and teammate
Evan Ensslin was right behind him with a 4:10.57.
The Jumbos also had some distance runners competing, as
Ivan Appleton ran a personal-best time in the 3000m steeplechase of 9:08.33 for fourth place overall.
Ryan Proulx was 13th as well in the steeple, as he finished with a 9:29.31.
In the 10000m,
Amokrane Aouchiche ran a time of 31:47.16 for 10th place, while senior
Connor Giersch crossed the line in 32:58.38 for 17th palce. First-year
Matt Burdulis was also 21st after running a 35:06.26.
Tufts continues action out in California Saturday at the PLNU Invitational at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego.
