SAN DIEGO, CA (March 25, 2023) -- The 2023 Tufts University men's outdoor track and field squad finished its trip out to California on Saturday, competing in the 15th Annual PLNU Track & Field Invitational at Point Loma Nazarene University.
Starting with the field events,
Eric Meyer finished third overall in the hammer throw with a strong toss of 45.47 meters. Teammate
Martin Decker was eighth in the hammer with a throw of 40.89m, while
Louis Tuccio was also Top 10 in ninth place with a mark of 37.42m.
Milo Goode was the winner in the javelin throw, winning by almost nine meters with a throw of 56.36 meters. The mark was the 13th-best mark of the Division III season thus far.
Randy Hamilton was also third in the javelin, as he recorded a mark of 44.35 meters.
The Jumbos got another win in the high jump, as
Karsten Kropp cleared a height of 1.86 meters for the victory.
Carter Rosewell was fourth in the long jump with a mark of 6.57 meters, while
Sahr Matturi was ninth with a jump of 6.24 meters. Matturi was sixth in the triple jump after recording a leap of 12.56 meters, and
Casey Lambert was right behind him with a leap of 12.53 meters for seventh place.
The throwers got another victory in the shot put, as Tuccio recorded a mark of 13.60 meters for the win.
Petey Lemmon also was third after recording a 13.16 meter heave, and Meyer was ninth with a 12.26 meter toss.
Derek Schmaeling placed in the Top 10 with a 12.22 meter throw for 10th place.
Lemmon was fifth as well in the discus throw with a throw of 38.22 meters, while Tuccio took sixth place with a toss of 37.75 meters. Hamilton was also ninth after a throw of 35.30 meters.
Moving to the track,
Calvin Cummings started the afternoon with a third-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase after running a 10:08.07. Tufts earned a victory in the 4x100 meter relay, as
Sam Nissen,
Luke Botsford, Rosewell and
Alex Lemieux ran a 41.53 for the fourth-best time in Division III this spring.
John Puka was Tufts' lone finisher in the Top 10 in the 1500 meter run, running a 4:08.80, while Cameron McLeod was eighth in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 15.49. Nissen was also 10th in the 110m hurdles after running a 15.75.
The 400 meter dash saw
Noah Turner run a 48.98 for the ninth-best time in the nation thus far this spring, taking third place in the event.
Liam O'Hara was 10th as well with a time of 50.84.
Botsford took second in the 100 meter dash with a wind-aided time of 10.63 meters, and Lemieux was fifth as well with an aided time of 10.76.
Walter Wagude ran the 10th best time in the country this season of 1:63.90 in the 800 meters to take third place. Will Cusato was also ninth after running a 1:56.11.
In the 400 meter hurdles, McLeod ran the 10th best time in Division III so far with a 55.24 for third place.
Botsford was right back on the track to pick up a nice victory in the 200 meter dash, as he ran a 21.49 for the victory. The time is good for fourth-best in Division III as of Saturday. Lemieux was fourth with a 21.89, ranking 14th in the country after the day's action.
In the 5000 meters,
Quinn Hampson was third overall after running a 15:14.26, finishing just in front of teammate
Oliver Printy who recorded a time of 15:18.78.
Hudson Yu was also sixth with a time of 15:34.46, and
Brady Colford ran a 16:00.90 for 10th place.
Tufts heads home and will host the 2023 Tufts Snowflake Classic this upcoming Saturday, April 1 at 10 a.m. from the Ellis Oval in Somerville.
