NORTHAMPTON, MA (April 14, 2023) -- The Tufts University men's outdoor men's track and field squad tacked up 33 points on the first day of action at the 2023 Carla Coffey Invitational at Smith College, leading the way heading into Saturday after a strong performance to start the weekend.
Sophomore
Milo Goode was one of the big stories for the Jumbos, as he finished as the winner in the javelin with a toss of 54.98 meters. The throw was just shy of his personal-best of 56.36 meters, but was still good enough for the victory and 10 points in the team scoring.
Randy Hamilton also had a great day in the javelin throw, as his throw of 48.22 meters was good for third place overall.
In the men's hammer throw, sophomore
Eric Meyer took home third place with a final tally of 46.36 meters, while newcomer
Martin Decker was sixth overall with a mark of 42.79 meters.
In the pole vault,
Liam Garrison posted an outdoor best height on the season of 4.45 meters, taking second place for eight total points in the standings.
The meet also is hosting a decathlon this weekend, and Tufts had two entrants going in a very strong field.
Carter Rosewell finished the opening day in striking position of the top spot in second place, posting 3,547 points. Rosewell started with a 11.24 in the 100 meters to take second in that event, and then followed that up with a 6.93 meter long jump to best the field.
Roswell was eighth in the shot put with a mark of 10.51 meters, and then cleared 1.85 meters in the high jump to post 670 points as he finished third in the event. In the final race of the day, Rosewell took second in the 400 meter run, tallying 756 points after crossing the line in 51.30. Teammate
Cole Anderson is ninth heading into the second day, as he was very strong in the shot put with a throw of 11.58 meters to pick up 581 points. Anderson also was sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 54.90.
The busier day of action at the 2023 Carla Coffey Invitational will begin Saturday at 11 a.m. at Smith College in Northampton, MA.
