NORTHAMPTON, MA (April 15, 2023) -- Saturday's action at the 2023 Carla Coffey Invitational was strong for the Tufts University men's outdoor track and field squad, as the Jumbos earned the team victory in competition from Smith College.
The Jumbos posted seven times or marks that finished the day in the NCAA Top 50, highlighted by
Carter Rosewell's third-place finish in the decathlon as he totaled 6188 points to rank No. 8 in Division III.
The 800 meters was a strong event for Tufts Saturday, as
Sawyer Wilson finished second overall with a time of 1:52.16, ranking 19th in the country. He was followed closely by senior
Marcus Hardy, who was third in the 800 meters with a time of 1:52.60. The time was 22nd nationally.
In the 400 meter hurdles, Cameron McLeod posted a season-best time of 54.44 for third place. McLeod's time ranks No. 24th in the nation after Saturday.
Sam Nissen had a strong day in the 100 meter dash, running a time of 11.20 seconds to take fourth place overall. First-year
Josh Wilkie was fourth as well in the 200 meter dash, registering a time of 22.92.
Sophomore
Ethan Forde was the Tufts' leader in the 400 meter run, taking sixth place after running a 50.34. First-year Will Cusato raced to a fourth-place finish in the 1500 meter run after tallying a time of 4:01.41.
Wilkie was the runner-up in the 110 hurdles, as he crossed the finish line in 15.38.
Ivan Appleton was a winner in the 3000 meter steeplechase, running a time of 9:16.91 for the victory.
Ryan Proulx raced to a season-best time of 9:27.67 in the steeplechase, ranking 34th nationally.
Harry Rienecker-Found posted a win in the high jump, clearing 1.93 meters, and
Karsten Kropp got over the bar at 1.88 meters to take fifth place.
In the triple jump,
Drew Svoboda posted a mark of 12.90 meters for fourth place. Junior
Louis Tuccio was fourth as well in the shot put with a mark of 13.47 meters on his third toss of the day, and sophomore
Petey Lemmon was sixth after recording a mark of 13.09 meters.
Eric Meyer led the Jumbos in the discus after recording a throw of 39.87 meters, and sophomore
Matthew Carey was seventh in the discus with a distance of 37.95 meters.
The Jumbos will host the Tufts Sunshine Classic next Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Ellis Oval in Somerville, MA.
