MEDFORD, MA (April 22, 2023) – Junior high jumper
Harry Rienecker-Found improved his national ranking to lead the Tufts University men's outdoor track & field team at home in the Sunshine Classic at Dussault Track on Saturday.
Rienecker-Found leapt into a tie for 10th nationally with his winning clearance of 2.02m (6'7 ½") today. He improved his national standing from 15th. It's his second-best mark outdoors at Tufts.
The Jumbos amassed 273 team points today to win the six-team meet. Bridgewater State University was the second-place team with a 151 score.
Freshmen
Josh Wilkie in the 110-meter hurdles and
Sahr Matturi in the triple jump both notched the team's season-best marks in their events today. Wilkie ran 15.14 seconds in the preliminaries (he went 15.18 for third in the final), and Matturi's 13.59m (44'7") won the triple. Wilkie was also a finalist in the 100 with a 11.28 prelim, and Matturi was fourth in the long jump (6.68m – 21'11").
Sophomore
Eric Meyer also had the team's season-best hammer throw and his PR with 49.84m (163'6") distance for second place. Elsewhere in the throws, sophomore
Petey Lemmon was the shot put runner-up at 13.68m (44'10 ¾") and recorded a PR in the discus throw with his 39.84m (130'8") to lead the Jumbos. Sophomore
Matthew Carey's 13.58m (44'6 ¾") shot put was a PR and third at the meet.
All four Jumbo competitors in the triple jump had PR's, including senior Drew Svododa with his 13.10m (42'11 ¾") that was second at the meet. He was also sixth in the long jump at 6.57m (21'6 ¾"), while junior
Ryan Vu's 6.50m (21'4") was a PR and placed seventh. Freshman
Casey Lambert's 12.73m (41'9 ¼") season-best in the triple was third.
Sophomore
Alex Friedman finished his first 3000-meter steeplechase in 9:54.91 to win, while freshman
Hudson Yu timed 33:00.74 in his first collegiate 10K for first place. Both races were mostly Tufts competitors. As was the 1500 won by first-year
Quinn Hampson with his 4:01.04 time today.
Sophomore
Noah Turner was Tufts' top finisher in the 200 meters at 22.28 seconds, while senior
Carter Rosewell was second in the 400 (52.14). Märten Tropp's 57.28 led Tufts and was second in the 400-meter hurdles, while junior
Liam Garrison cleared 4.30m (14'1 ¼") in the pole vault for second-place points. Freshman
Cam McLeod in his first collegiate 800 was fourth in 2:03.41.
Freshman
Sam Nissen recorded a pair of season-bests, a 22.42 for fifth in the 200 and a 15.58 for fourth in the 110-meter hurdles. He also led off for the 4x1 whose 43.23 was second. Nissen was joined by Wilkie, sophomore
Naheim Washington and sophomore
Ethan Forde.
This was the last regular-season meet for Tufts, who heads to Connecticut College for the NESCAC Championships next Saturday.
