SPRINGFIELD, MA (May 6, 2023) -- The Tufts University men's track and field squad finished up action at the 2023 New England Division III Championships on Saturday afternoon, with competition coming at Blake Track on the campus of Springfield College on a beautiful day in Western Massachusetts.
The Jumbos started the day out as
Louis Tuccio took 11th in the shot put with a heave of 13.97 meters, while
Petey Lemmon was 15th after posting a distance of 13.39 meters. Lemmon was back in action in the discus throw, as his final mark of 41.18 meter was good for 13th place overall. Teammate
Eric Meyer took 18th place as well in the discus, finishing with a final mark of 39.76 meters.
In the high jump,
Harry Rienecker-Found finished fourth after getting over the bar at 1.99 meters, and
Karsten Kropp was 11th with a final height of 1.91 meters.
On the track,
Calvin Cummings was Tufts' top finisher in the 3000m steeplechase, as he ran a 9:55.20 for 11th place overall.
David Manning was 19th in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:00.07.
The Jumbos got some points for the team total in the 110 meter hurdles, as
Josh Wilkie finished sixth overall in the finals with a time of 14.69 meters.
Ethan Forde took 18th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.54 seconds, while first-year
Liam O'Hara ran a 51.65 as well.
In the 100 meter dash finals,
Alex Lemieux posted a time of 10.76 to move up two spots from his prelim spot for a sixth-place finish. The Jumbos fared well in the 800 meter run, as
Evan Ensslin was eighth in the event with a time of 1:54.88 while
Sawyer Wilson was right behind him with a time of 1:54.98 in ninth place.
Marcus Hardy was 12th as well with a time of 1:55.13, and
Walter Wagude finished in 1:55.57.
The 400 meter hurdles saw Cameron McLeod finished sixth with a time of 54.87, and
Jay Sharma and Marten Tropp were 15th and 16th with times of 56.37 and 56.38, respectively. Lemiuex was back on the track in the 200 meter dash to take fifth place with a time of 21.67, while
Amokrane Aouchiche finished 14th in the 5000 meter run after crossing the line in 15:28.47.
Quinn Hampson finished right behind Aouchiche after running a 15:33.62.
The Jumbos finished the meet in 10th place as a squad, posting 27 points. MIT was the overall winner with 143 points on the weekend.
Tufts will head to the NEICAAA meet on Friday and Saturday, May 12-13.
