Scott Gyimesi Named to D3Hoops.com Team of the Week after Hot Start

MEDFORD, MA (November 19, 2024) - Following a 2-0 start to the season, Tufts University men's basketball forward Scott Gyimesi picked up another weekly award. The junior was named  to the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week on Tuesday afternoon, earning his second weekly award after just one week of play.

In the season opener at Bridgewater State, Gyimesi showed that he was fully ready to build off of last year's strong campaign. He tallied 13 points against the Bears, adding nine rebounds and nine assists to just miss out on a triple-double. His scoring was very efficient as well, scoring 13 points on 50% shooting from the field.

The second game of the season saw Gyimesi continue his hot start. He dropped 23 points on the Emerson Lions, adding eleven rebounds for a double-double. His efficiency improved even more, with a 79% shooting percentage from the field in just the second game of the campaign. He also picked up a steal and made a three pointer against the Lions.

Across 63 minutes of play, Gyimesi has yet to turn the ball over. The D3Hoops.com Team of the Week nod is his second weekly award of the week, joining his NESCAC Player of the Week award from yesterday. He joins a list of six other Jumbos to have won a D3Hoops.com Team of the Week award, most recently done by Dylan Thoerner in week 13 of the 2023 season. Dan Flaherty (2000), Tom Palleschi (2016), Jon Pierce (2008, 2010), David Shepherd (2006) and Brian Skerry (1998) have all won the award for the Jumbos in past seasons.

Through one week of play, Gyimesi sits sixth in the NESCAC in points per game with 18.0, second in the NESCAC in rebounds per game with 10.0 and is fourth in the conference in assists per game with 4.5.

The Jumbos will make a quick trip to Boston to play the Suffolk Rams in a game on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.
