SPRINGFIELD, MA (February 17, 2024) -- Sophomore
Josh Wilkie set a personal-best time in the 60 hurdles Saturday, winning the event while posting a NCAA Top 50 time as the Tufts University men's track and field squad finished its regular season portion of the indoor season with a strong effort at the Springfield College Triangle Classic.
The meet was not scored as a team, but the Jumbos had a strong performance highlighted by the efforts of Wilkie and company. The sophomore hurdler finished seventh in the preliminaries with a time of 8.91 seconds, but then set a new personal-best time in the finals as he ran an 8.23 to win the event. Tufts had four runners in the 60 hurdles final, as Cameron McLeod was second with a time of 8.87 seconds,
Carter Rosewell was seventh after posting a time of 8.92 seconds and
Jay Sharma took eighth with an 8.94.
In the pole vault, first-year
Ryder Kropiwnicki finished with a season-best height of 4.55 meters as he chalked up the 49th best height in Division III this season while taking third place Saturday. In the throwing events, senior
Louis Tuccio took third place in the shot put with a toss of 14.14 meters, while his runner-up finish in the weight throw was a career-best 15.69 meters.
Petey Lemmon was fourth in the shot as well with a 13.99 meter toss, while
Martin Decker finished fourth with a 14.63 meter toss in the weight throw.
In the high jump, senior
Harry Rienecker-Found was second after tying his season-best height at 2.04 meters, and first-year
Sami Witta got over the bar at 1.90 meters for fifth place. In the long jump,
Sahr Matturi chalked up a collegiate indoors personal-best mark of 6.83 meters for second place. Matturi also picked up a victory in the triple jump, finishing with a leap of 13.49 on his first attempt to pick up the win.
On the track, Charlie Fitzpatrick set a collegiate-best time in the 200 meters with a time of 23.25 to take fifth place, and
Brian Kwarteng ran a personal-best time of 23.66 for 11th place. Kwarteng was also third in the 400 meters after running a 52.64, and McLeod took third in the 600 meters after running a 1:24.25. Senior
Walter Wagude ran a 1:58.07 for a runner-up spot in the 800 meters, while sophomore
Quinn Hampson was second in the mile after season-best time of 4:21.85.
Junior
Martin Horne ran a personal-best time in the 3000 meters of 8:46.80, a New England Championships qualifying time.
The Jumbos will now turn their attention to the New England Championships, as the full meet will take place Sunday, February 25 at the TRACK at New Balance while the multi event will be contested starting Friday and Saturday, February 23-24 at Tufts University.
