DMR Picks Up Win At Springfield College Triangle Classic Saturday

SPRINGFIELD, MA (February 17, 2024) -- The Tufts University women's track and field squad earned a win in the distance medley relay as the squad competed at the Springfield College Triangle Classic inside the Springfield Field House Saturday afternoon. 

The DMR quartet consisting of Rose Kitz, Tessa Player, Julia Dolce and Sophia Carpenter ran a time of 12:58.53 to finish first in the event. Other highlights on Saturday including a strong finish from junior Liz Graham, who was sixth in the weight throw with a toss of 13.85 meters. First-year Ceci LaBarge posted a collegiate-best distance of 13.58 meters for seventh place in the weight throw, while fellow newcomer Nicole Kuhl was ninth after a mark of 12.92 meters. Maja Nielsen also set a season-best in the weight throw of 11.16 meters. 

In the triple jump, junior Jordan Andrew was the runner-up with a final mark of 10.68 meters, while Tamia Dubidad chalked up a season-best mark of 10.28 meter for sixth place. Andrew was third in the long jump after her final distance of 5.08 meters, and Nora Jean-Jacques took fifth with a mark of 4.94 meters coming on her final leap of the day. 

Junior Sarah Firth performed well in the pole vault after clearing 3.70 meters for the runner-up position, just missing winning the event due to attempts taken. In the 60 hurdles Madelyn Silveira and Cassidy Ho made the finals, while Ho ran a personal-best time of 10.28 in the preliminaries. In the finals, Silveira was seventh in 10.33 seconds while Ho took eighth with a 10.49. 

The mile run saw Carpenter run a collegiate-best time of 5:21.20 for third place, while sophomore Samantha Fellman was sixth overall after crossing the finish line in 5:29.44. Dolce posted a season-best time in the 800 meters of 2:24.13, a New England Championships qualifying time, and Paige Zhang was eighth in the 600 meters with a time of 1:53.70. 

Junior Ayala Mehrotra raced to a time of 32.80 seconds in the 200 meters, while Dubidad posted a season-best time in the 60 meters of 8.53 seconds. 

The Jumbos will now turn their attention to the New England Championships, as the full meet will take place Sunday, February 25 at the TRACK at New Balance while the multi event will be contested starting Friday, February 23 at Tufts University.
