Carter Rosewell won both the 60 meter dash and long jump to highlight action in the heptathlon in the first of two days of action in the 2024 Tufts Cupid Challenge inside Gantcher Field House. Rosewell finished the opening day ahead with 2752 points, while teammate
Cole Anderson sits in 12th place with 2178 points.
Rosewell got the day started with a strong performance in the 60 meter dash, as he raced to an event-winning time of 7.23 seconds for 802 points. Anderson was 12th in the 60 meters after crossing the line in 7.81 seconds. The long jump was next up for the Jumbo duo, and Rosewell was once again tops among the 18 competitors as he posted a mark of 6.69 meters for 741 points. Anderson was 10th in the long jump with a final mark of 5.70 meters, adding 523 points to his total.
In the shot put, Anderson was the star of the show as he posted the field's top toss with a heave of 12.23 meters for 620 points. Rosewell wasn't too far off the pace of Anderson as he was fourth in the shot put with a distance of 11.03 meters. The fourth-place finish added 548 points to his total.
In the final event of Friday's competition, Rosewell was second to only WPI's William Pagliarulo in the high jump. Rosewell posted a height of 1.84 meters for 661 points, just .06 meters off the lead. Anderson cleared 1.54 meters for 12th place and 419 points.
The field will finish competition on Saturday with the 60 meter hurdles, pole vault and 1000 meter run to finish the event. Rosewell is chasing his personal-best point total of 4768 points, needing just under 2000 points in his final three events to get there. Anderson is chasing his previous personal-best of 3576 going into Saturday.
The full meet schedule will get underway on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the second day of competition inside Gantcher Field House.
