Carter Rosewell finished off a great weekend in the heptathlon Saturday afternoon, as the Jumbo broke his own school record with 5014 points, earning the victory in the event at the 2024 Division III New England Championships inside the Gantcher Field House.
Rosewell came into the day with 2845 points, and got the day underway with a strong time of 8.80 seconds to pick up 791 points while winning the event. In the pole vault, Rosewell set a new personal-best height of 4.10 meters to earn himself 645 points while finishing second in the event. In the final competition, Rosewell came from third place late in the race to pick up the victory in the 1000 meters while earning 733 points to become the first Jumbo ever to eclipse 5000 points in the heptathlon in program history.
The 5014 points rank Rosewell 10th in the nation, as the top 12 competitors are chosen for the NCAA Championships. For the weekend, Rosewell set new personal-best marks in the long jump (7.08m) and pole vault (4.10m) and finished in the top two in five of the seven events.
Junior
Cole Anderson also performed well this weekend, as he was the last competitor into the field of 12 and ended up finishing ninth with a new personal-best total of 3700 points. Anderson started the afternoon with a new personal-best time of 9.61 seconds in the 60m hurdles to finish fifth in the event with 617 points. In the pole vault, Anderson racked up 286 points with a 2.70 meter height, and tallied another PR in the 1000 meters with a time of 3:07.40 for 594 points.
Anderson chalked up personal bests in the long jump (5.89m), high jump (1.58m), 60m hurdles (9.61) and 1000 meters (3:07.40) on the weekend, finishing just outside the scoring in ninth place.
The full day of action at the 2024 Division III New England Championships will take place Sunday, as the Jumbo men's qualifiers will compete at The TRACK at New Balance starting at 9 a.m.
