MEDFORD, MA (February 29, 2024) -- The Tufts University men's basketball team enters the 2024 NCAA Tournament this weekend at NYU, and with them the Jumbos will bring one All-New England Small Conference Athletic Conference (NESCAC) performer with them as sophomore
Scott Gyimesi was named to the First Team Thursday.
The Fair Haven, NJ native comes into the weekend as the NESCAC leader in a variety of categories including double-doubles, field goal percentage, rebounds, defensive boards and rebounds per game. Gyimesi leads the Jumbos with 13.7 points per game, while adding 11.1 rebounds per game. Gyimesi has posted 18 double-doubles on the season, which ranks No. 5 in the nation, and he is 13th in total rebounds this season in the country with 288.
Gyimesi posted a career-high 23 points and 18 rebounds in a home win over Emmanuel back on January 7, while tallying a career-high 19 boards in a win over Emerson on November 14. Gyimesi becomes the third All-NESCAC First Team honoree in the last three seasons, joining Luke Rogers and
Dylan Thoerner as players coached by head coach
Brandon Linton to earn the award.
Connecticut College's David Murray was named as the NESCAC Player of the Year, while Trinity College had the Defensive Player of the Year in Dana Smith and Coaching Staff of the Year. Bates College first-year Marc Begin II was the Rookie of the Year.
Tufts will battle Stockton University at NYU at 4:30 pm Friday afternoon in the NCAA Tournament First Round.
