BRIGHTON, MA (March 1, 2024) -- Senior
Luke Botsford continued to rewrite the record books on Friday afternoon, as the sprinter standout for Tufts University posted the top time in the 400 meter dash preliminaries with a school-record 47.95 second time in the first day of action from the NEICAAA Championships at The TRACK at New Balance.
Botsford broke 48 seconds for the first time in his career, as he raced to the day's top time of 47.95 to break his school record of 48.02. He also topped a field of mostly Division I runners, while his time is now No. 16 in the nation in the 400 meters.
In the long jump, sophomore
Sahr Matturi finished 19th overall with a mark of 6.38 meters. Also in the 400 meter dash, first-year
Neil Chowdhury finished 11th in prelims with a time of 48.96 while teammate
Ethan Forde was 16th overall with a new personal-best time of 49.55.
Alex Lemiuex will compete in the 60 meter dash on Saturday for the Jumbos, while Tufts will have Botsford in the 400 meter finals as well as a squad in the 4x400 meter relay in action starting at 9 a.m. from The TRACK at New Balance.
