MYRTLE BEACH, SC (March 16, 2024) -- The Tufts University women's track and field squad finished action at the 2024 Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational Saturday, as the Jumbos had a solid third day of competition inside Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach.
The first event of Saturday's action on the track was the mile, and sophomore
Lexi Dean ran a personal-best time of 5:10.96 for a runner-up finish and eight points. Senior
Rose Kitz was just behind her with a 5:18.44, taking sixth place while first-year
Sonia Olson was 12th with a 5:28.87.
In the collegiate 100m hurdle finals, senior
Sarah Pillone took seventh place after running a time of 15.42 seconds. In the women's collegiate 400m run, junior
Annika Kral was 12th overall with a time of 59.82 seconds followed closely by senior
Harper Meek and her personal-best 1:00.48 for 16th place.
In the women's 800m run, first-year
Kaya West raced to a time of 2:24.83 for 13th place while fellow newcomer
Eugenie Horisberger was 14th with a 2:24.91. In the 400m hurdles, junior
Emma Smith ran to a runner-up finish with a strong time of 1:03.97, and senior
Antonia Knoth posted a 1:06.37.
The 200m collegiate field was littered with Division I runners but Meek ran a very strong time of 26.62 seconds, the 26th fastest time in Division III this season. Kral also ran a 26.87 to rank into the top 50 nationally, while
Anne-Sophie Janssen clocked in with a 27.27.
In the shot put, junior
Liz Graham took home 29th place after posting a toss of 9.98 meters. Junior
Sarah Firth was strong in her first outdoor outing this season, taking second place in the collegiate pole vault event after clearing 3.80 meters. That height is best in Division III through the weekend.
The Jumbos will be back in action in two weekends, hosting the Tufts University Snowflake Classic on Dussault Track inside Ellis Oval at 10:00 a.m. in Medford, MA.
