MEDFORD, MA (March 2, 2024) -- The Tufts University men's track and field squad had a strong day at the NEICAA Championships at The TRACK at New Balance, while also hosting the 2024 Tufts National Qualifying inside the Gantcher Family Sports Center and Convocation Center Saturday.
Over at New Balance,
Luke Botsford continued to break records this weekend as the senior standout for the Jumbos raced to a time of 47.89 in the 400 meter finals win the event amongst a group of Division I and II athletes. Botsford improved his time and now sits in No. 15 on the NCAA Division III Indoor Qualifying List in the event.
The Jumbos would also break a school record in the 4x400 meter relay on Saturday, as the Jumbos raced to a great time of 3:13.54 thanks to the efforts of
Neil Chowdhury,
Noah Turner,
Alex Lemieux and Botsford. The time is now No. 6 in the 4x400 meter relay nationally. Lemieux also competed in the 60 meter dash Saturday, running a 7.09 in the preliminaries.
Over at the Tufts Qualifying Meet, junior
Karsten Kropp won the high jump with a leap of 1.97 meter while first-year
Sami Witta tied his collegiate best with a height of 1.97 meters. Junior
Edward Kiboma was third in the high jump as well with a height of 1.92 meters.
In the shot put, junior
Petey Lemmon was seventh after a toss of 14.23 meters while
Louis Tuccio took eighth with a mark of 14.01 meters. Gus Bickert set a new personal-best with a toss of 13.62 meters.
Sophomore
Sam Nissen ran the exact same time in both the prelims and finals, taking sixth place with a 7.11 second time in the 60 meter dash. Charlie Fitzpatrick was seventh in the 200 meter dash after running a 23.23, a new personal-best time, while also finishing 11th in the 60 meters with a time of 7.21 seconds.
Sophomore
Josh Wilkie was eighth in prelims of the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.71 seconds before running an 8.48 in the finals for sixth place.
In the 800 meter run,
Jackson O'Toole finished 11th after a time of 1:57.40 while senior
Ryan Proulx crossed the line in 1:59.13 for 16th place.
Senior
Ryan Vu also took sixth place with a mark of 6.45 meters in the long jump for Tufts.
Naheim Washington ran a 7.23 in the 60 meter dash to take 14th place.
