NORTHAMPTON, MA (April 12, 2024) -- The Tufts University men's track and field squad finished day one with the lead at the 2024 Carla Coffey Invitational, thanks to strong performances in the hammer throw, javelin throw and pole vault.
In the hammer throw the trio of
Eric Meyer,
Martin Decker and
Louis Tuccio finished 3-4-5 to pick up 15 points for the Jumbos. Meyer was third overall after posting a throw of 47.97 meters, whlie Decker chalked up a throw of 46.66 meters for fourth place. Tuccio was right behind them in fifth place with a new personal-best throw of 45.85 meters, and sophomore
Hyunmin Shin was eighth after registering a toss of 44.57 meters.
In the javelin, junior
Milo Goode had a strong performance with a second-place finish after his mark of 54.65 meters. Sophomore
Randy Hamilton was fourth in the event with a final distance of 49.95 meters.
The pole vault saw first-year
Max Dicker clear his first attempt of 3.80 meters before dropping out at 3.95 meters to take seventh place.
In the first day of decathlon action,
Carter Rosewell finished with 3,459 points through the first five events for second place behind just Middlebury's Caleb Smith. Rosewell was first in the long jump (6.58m) and 400 meters (51.65), while taking second in the 100 meters (11.15) and high jump (1.84m).
Cole Anderson slotted in at 10th place after the first day, as he posted 2564 points highlighted by his third-place finish in the shot put (11.16m).
The full day of action at the Carla Coffey Invitational will start Saturday at 11 a.m. on the Outdoor Track at Smith College.
