Jumbo Women's Track and Field Takes Fourth Place At 2024 Carla Coffey Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, MA (April 13, 2024) -- The Tufts University women's track and field team earned fourth place this weekend at the 2024 Carla Coffey Invitational, hosted by Smith College as the Jumbos picked up 97 points over Friday and Saturday. 

The Jumbos saw strong efforts all afternoon, led by first-year Lexi King who took silver medal honors in the high jump with a cleared height of 1.52 meters. Senior Sarah Pillone was also second in the 100 hurdles, racing to a time of 15.23 seconds, and junior Emma Smith and Antonia Knoth went 2-3 in the 400 meter hurdles after running times of 1:04.73 and 1:04.95, respectively. Knoth's time in the 400 meters was 25th nationally, as she also chalked up a personal-best time of 15.43 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles, taking fourth place. 

The 5000 meter run saw two strong race for the Jumbos, as sophomore Grace Ogden earned the silver medal in a time of 17:52.19, with first-year Katya Henisz receiving bronze medal accolades with a 17:55.58. 

In the 3000m steeplechase, sophomore Lexi Dean had a very strong performance as she took fifth overall with a time of 11:34.47. Her time is now 44th in the nation. 

The Tufts 4x400 meter relay took first place on Saturday, thanks to the racing from Harper Meek, Annika Kral, Knoth and Smith after running a 4:01.82. 

In the shot put, Liz Graham recorded a new personal-best heave with a 10.59 mark, taking seventh place. In the long jump, first-year Nora Jean-Jacques was fifth overall with a mark of 4.78 meters. 

Back on the track, first-year Simi Lawal was the Jumbos' top finisher in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.17 seconds while Meek paced Tufts in the 200 meters after running a time of 27.00 seconds for 12th place. 

Kral took fourth place overall in the 400 meters after running a 59.84, and sophomore Anne-Sophie Janssen captured ninth with a time of 1:01.44. Sophomore Julia Dolce took home fourth place honors in the 800 meters, running a 2:25.91, while Kaya West ran a 2:26.42 for fifth place. 

In the 1500 meter run, senior Rose Kitz established a new personal-best time of 4:52.67 to take seventh place and earn two points for Tufts. 

Tufts will be back at home for the next two weekends, as the Jumbos host the 2024 Tufts Sunshine Classic next weekend on Ellis Oval Saturday, April 20.
