Final Results
MEDFORD, MA (April 7, 2024) -- The Tufts University men's track and field team had to wait an extra day for the Amherst College Spring Fling, but the Jumbos continued to have strong results this spring in action from Neuhoff-Lumley Track at Lehrman Stadium on the campus of Amherst College.
The Tufts high jump contingent had a strong day on Sunday, as first-year
Sami Witta posted a collegiate-best height of 2.03 meters to rank No. 11 in the nation after taking third-place. Junior
Karsten Kropp was fourth overall with a 1.97 meter height, a career-high, while
Edward Kiboma also cleared 1.97 meters for a career high. Kropp and Kiboma are both now No. 24 in the nation in the high jump.
In other field event action, senior
Liam Garrison was fifth in the pole vault with a height of 4.15 meters. Senior
Ryan Vu took fourth place in the long jump after bounding to a mark of 6.47 meters, while
Casey Lambert finished eighth overall after his 12.39 meter jump.
Senior
Petey Lemmon took fourth place in the shot put with a mark of 14.45 meters and Gus Bickert continued his strong progression with a collegiate-best 14.01 meter toss for fifth place.
Lemmon was also the Tufts' leader in the discus with a 40.74 meter throw on his third of six throws, while Eric Mayer earned seventh place in the hammer throw after finishing with a mark of 48.95 meters. Junior
Ross Miller was also strong in the javelin as he took second place with a final best throw of 51.84 meters.
On the track,
Luke Botsford was the top runner for the Jumbos in the 100 meter dash as he ran a 11.06.
Josh Wilkie took ninth place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.35 seconds. Botsford earned Tufts' only win of the day in the 400 meter dash, running a 48.10 while teammate
Noah Turner was right behind him in second place with a time of 49.66.
Ethan Forde also was in the top five after crossing the line in a time of 50.19.
First-year
Jonah Reisner ran a collegiate-best time in the 5000 meters to take third place Sunday after clocking in with a 14:45.20, good for 50th on the national performance list. Junior
Alex Friedman was also sixth in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:00.37.
Wilkie was fourth overall in the 110 high hurdles after crossing the finish line in a time of 15.17 seconds, and Marten Tropp took second place in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 55.85 seconds. Senior
Brian Kwarteng was fourth as well in the 400 meter hurdles after recording a 58.36, and
Maxwell Li was eighth with a 1:00.42.
The Jumbos 4x100 meter relay of
Alex Lemieux,
Neil Chowdhury, Turner and Botsford was fourth with a time of 41.66. The time is currently 23rd on the NCAA Top 50 list.
Tufts returns to action next weekend on Friday and Saturday, April 12-13 at the Carla Coffey Invitational and Multi at Smith College in Northampton, MA.
