AMHERST, MA (April 7, 2024) -- Tufts hurdler
Emma Smith picked up a win in the 400 meter hurdles Sunday, highlighting action at the 2024 Amherst Spring Fling in competition from Neuhoff-Lumley Track at Lehrman Stadium.
Smith finished the win in the 1:05.25 to earn the win in 400 meter hurdles, qualifying for the NESCAC and New England Championships, while
Antonia Knoth was third after running a time of 1:05.90. The time for Knoth was 37th-best in Division III this season.
Annika Kral ran a strong time in the 400 meter dash, as she took third with a time of 58.58. Kral's time was a season-best as it now ranks No. 48 in the nation after Sunday's performances. First-year
Simisola Lawal was eight in the 200 meter dash, as she crossed the finish line in 26.42 seconds.
First-year
Katya Henisz was seventh in the 1500 meters after racing across the line in 4:46.33, while
Lexi Dean was right behind her in eighth place after recording a time of 4:46.47.
In the 100 meter hurdles, senior
Sarah Pillone was fourth overall after running a 15.17, while
Jordan Andrew,
Anne-Sophie Janssen,
Tamia Dubidad and
Nyla Thompson ran a 50.05 in the 4x100 relay for fifth place. In the 4x400 relay,
Eugenie Horisberger,
Sonia Olson,
Kaya West and
Rose Kitz were sixth with a time of 4:19.95.
The field events saw
Harper Meek and
Lexi King have very solid days in the high jump, as they both tied for third place in the high jump after clearing 1.62 meters. The pair are now tied for 20th on the national performance list.
Sarah Firth was second in the pole vault after getting over 3.75 meters, as first-year
Emma Gall took sixth place with a 3.25 meter mark. Thompson also got over the bar at 3.25 meters.
Andrew led the Jumbos in the long jump with a leap of 5.31 meters, also pacing Tufts in the triple jump with a mark of 10.74 meters. Pillone was sixth overall in the triple jump with a 10.40 meter jump, and Dubidad took seventh after posting a leap of 10.34 meters.
In the hammer throw,
Maja Nielsen chalked up a personal-best toss of 42.78 meters for fourth place while junior
Liz Graham was eighth after a toss of 41.99 meters.
Maddy Silveira was seventh in the javelin after her heave of 29.24 meters.
Tufts returns to action next weekend on Friday and Saturday, April 12-13 at the Carla Coffey Invitational and Multi at Smith College in Northampton, MA.
