Jumbos Fall 3-1 to No. 1 Ranked Endicott Tuesday Afternoon

Box Score

BEVERLY, MA (April 9, 2024) - The Tufts University men's baseball team traveled to Beverly Mass, to take on No. 1 ranked Endicott College Tuesday afternoon.

The Jumbos (12-9) gave the ball to first-year Matt Hirsch, Hirsch had a great outing striking out one batter over four innings pitched. The Jumbos found themselves down early in the top of the first inning as the Gulls brought home a run on an RBI double to make the score 1-0. The Jumbos would answer right back in the top half of the second inning as senior John Fritz brought home fellow senior Patrick Solomon home on an RBI single to right field to even the score at 1. Solomon led off the inning with a leadoff single then stole second base.

The Gulls would add the last two runs of the game in the bottom of the third as Gulls senior Joey Frammartino hit a 2 RBI single to put them back in the lead 3-1.

In the fifth inning the Jumbos brought in sophomore reliever Cole Donato, Donato also had a great outing against the No. 1 team in the nation as he struck out two batters in three innings of work, only allowing one hit.

The Gulls had great pitching all day as they slowed down a red-hot Jumbo offense to one run in the game. Endicott's starting pitcher Charlie Hale struck out ten batters over 7.1 innings giving up one run and walking a single batter in his outing.

The Jumbos' best chance to tie the game up came when senior Ozzie Fleischer roped a leadoff double down the left field line, the Jumbos were unable to drive Fleischer home.

The Jumbos had six hits on the day and one error, junior Henry Fleckner went two for four on the day and Fleischer went two for three. Junior Jacob Lapp came into pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Jumbos will continue more non-conference play tomorrow as they will play MIT tomorrow at Fran O'Brien Field in Cambridge Mass. on the campus of MIT. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:30 P.M.
