WORCESTER, MA (May 10, 2024) -- Senior
Carter Rosewell finished the opening day of action in first place of the decathlon at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Outdoor Championships, highlighting a strong day for the Tufts University men's track and field from The College of Holy Cross in Worcester, MA at Hart Track.
Rosewell, who was competing against a variety of Division I and Division II athletes, led the decathlon with 3,601 points through the first five events. Rosewell was fourth after running an 11.43 in the 100 meters to open the competition. In the long jump, he won the event with a 6.98 meter jump to pick up 809 points. In the shot put, he recorded a big personal-best toss of 11.45 meters while posting a new PR in the high jump after clearing 1.89 meters. In the 400 meters, he ran a 51.50 for 747 points to finish just ahead of Rhode Island's Devin Donahue.
In the long jump,
Alex Lemieux was third to pick up six points after recording a distance of 7.15 meters for the bronze. Sophomore
Sahr Matturi was ninth after his leap of 6.73 meters.
In the 100 meter preliminaries, Lemieux ran a 10.88 second time to take 21st place while junior
Naheim Washington was just off his collegiate-best with an time of 11.10 seconds.
The 110m hurdles saw sophomore
Josh Wilkie run a huge personal-best time of 14.41 seconds to qualify for Saturday's finals with the fifth-fastest time. Wilkie's time was the 20th fastest in Division III after Friday's action, and just off the school record of 14.37 seconds set by Josh Etkind in 2017.
Sophomore Cameron McLeod posted a 15.40 second time for 15th, while sophomore
Sam Nissen was 17th in qualifying with a time of 15.87 seconds.
In the 200 meter preliminaries, first-year
Neil Chowdhury chalked up a time of 22.60 seconds for 26th place. The 400 meter prelims saw senior
Luke Botsford qualify for the finals Saturday, as he ran a 48.02 for the second-best time of the day.
Ethan Forde was 25th in qualifying after logging his time of 50.80 seconds.
McLeod was seventh in the prelims for the 400 hurdles, running a 54.64 to take seventh place in qualifying. Junior
Jay Sharma was 16th with a 56.35 as well.
In the hammer throw,
Eric Meyer posted a solid day as his final mark was over 50 meters with a 50.77 meter toss to take 15th place. Junior
Milo Goode was 15th in the javelin after a final distance of 53.11 meters.
The Jumbos will continue action Saturday at the NEICAAA Championships Saturday with action starting at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross.
