Alex Lemieux had a career day on the jumping strip at the 2024 Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, highlighting the first of three days of competition at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium this weekend.
Lemieux came into the day with a personal-best leap of 7.32 meters in the long jump, as he was seeded No. 13 before the start of competition. Lemieux would come out of the gates with a new personal-best leap of 7.34 meters to set the bar high, as he was third after the first round of action.
The senior would fail to put another mark up over seven meters, but that initial 7.34 meter leap stood up as he earned three points for the team total while posting his sixth-place finish. He was one of just two jumpers to record a new personal-best on the day.
In the decathlon,
Carter Rosewell was the No. 18 seed of the 22-person field but finished the day in 10th place after recording 3572 points over the opening five events. Rosewell posted a time of 11.17 seconds in the 100 meters for eighth place, earning 823 points out of the gate.
Rosewell would then win the long jump event, recording 769 points with a leap of 6.81 meters to move into sixth place. He dropped back down to eighth after his 14th place finish in the shot put with a toss of 11.24 meters. He then was 11th in the high jump after clearing 1.85 meters. In the final event of the day, he ran a 51.43 in the 400 meters to pick up 750 points while dropping into 10th after the opening five events.
On the track, senior
Luke Botsford was 18th in the 200 meters after running a 21.42 second time in the third of three heats. Botsford would then join the 4x400 meter relay along with Lemieux,
Neil Chowdhury and
Noah Turner to run a time of 3:15.10 to finish 14th for the event.
Botsford will be in action Friday afternoon in the men's 400 meters at 5:15 p.m. in the second of three days at the NCAA Championships. Botsford is seeded No. 10 in the 400 meters.
