SOUTH HADLEY, MA (May 4, 2024) -- The Tufts University women's track and field squad finished competition at the 2024 Division III New England Championships Saturday, taking fourth place in action from Mount Holyoke College.
Two Jumbo runners competed in finals on Saturday after qualifying in their respective events on Friday, as first-year
Simisola Lawal was 10th in the 100 meter dash after racing to a time of 12.79 seconds. In the 100m hurdles,
Sarah Pillone picked up two points for the Jumbos total after taking seventh place in a time of 14.99 seconds.
In the 200 meters, Lawal was 20th overall after running a 26.05, while junior
Harper Meek posted a new personal-best time in the 400 meters with a time of 59.39 seconds for 15th place. Junior
Annika Kral was 17th overall as well in the 400 meters, running a 59.47.
In the 400 meter hurdles, junior
Emma Smith was fifth with a 1:04.68, picking up four points in the event. Antonia Knock was right behind Smith in sixth place, crossing the finish line in 1:05.49. Junior
Emily Sverak was 14th with a new season-best time of 1:07.41.
First-year
Sonia Olson was just outside of the scoring range in the 1500 meters, posting a 4:43.45 for ninth place while sophomore
Lexi Dean ran a 4:47.50 for 14th place. Sophomore
Julia Dolce also raced to a time of 4:53.03 to take 17th place.
Newcomer
Taylor Neldner chalked up a 13th place finish in the 3000m steeplechase after recording a time of 12:00.18, and the Jumbos 4x800 meter relay of
Rose Kitz, Kira West, Olson and Smith posted a season-best time of 9:39.12 for fifth place.
In the triple jump,
Jordan Andrew finished her strong weekend with a bronze medal after posting a mark of 11.51 meters.
Maelynn Ugokwe chalked up a new personal-best mark of 11.28 meters to take fifth place and four points, while Pillone was ninth with a leap of 10.89 meters.
First-year
Lexi King scored for the Jumbos, taking sixth place with a cleared height of 1.62 meters.
In the heptathlon,
Tessa Player moved up to eighth place with 3519 points as she had a strong day thanks to a second-place finish in the javelin with a mark of 29.68 meters and a fourth-place time of 2:32.31 in the 800 meters to finish the event.
Sydney Spivy was ninth in the heptathlon with a point total of 3519.
Tufts will compete at the NEICAAA Championships Friday at 4 p.m. in Worcester, MA at the College of Holy Cross.
