BOSTON, MA (February 28, 2025) - The Tufts University men's track and field team kicked off the Division III New England Championships with a strong second place finish after day one of competition at The TRACK at New Balance.
Josh Wilkie earned the first points scoring finish on the track for the Jumbos, taking seventh in the 60m hurdles with an 8.42.
Amokrane Aouchiche was the next point scorer and the first Jumbo on the podium as he took third in the 5000m run with a 14:35.25 - a new personal best.
Will Cusato was the next Jumbo on the podium as he finished third in the 1000m run, finishing in a personal best time of 2:28.30.
Liam Lucas was just behind him in fifth, finishing in a personal best time of 2:29.44.
Meba Henok finished about half a second later in sixth, also finishing with a personal best time of 2:31.12.
Ryan Regan and
Sam Kurian were the final pair of Jumbos to earn points in an individual event on the track on day one, as they took fourth and sixth respectively. Only six tenths of a second separated the teammates, as Regan finished in 1:20.00 and Kurian in 1:20.60, a personal best time for both.
The only men's relay of the day saw the Tufts team of Hampson, Cohen, Hankins and Friedman finish fourth in the distance medley in a 10:13.61
Moving over to the track, the Jumbos maintained their strong performance all around.
Sahr Matturi took third in the long jump with a personal best mark of 7.02m.
Luke Benson also scored in the long jump, taking eighth with a 6.73m jump,
The Jumbos will continue competition in the Division III New England Championships at the TRACK tomorrow at 10:00 am. They currently sit in second place out of 21 teams with 38 points.
