MEDFORD, MA (February 8, 2025) - The Tufts University men's indoor track and field team showed their depth with an all around performance in day two of the Tufts Cupid Challenge at the Gantcher Center on Saturday.
The conclusion of the heptathlon saw
Ryder Kropiwnicki mount an impressive comeback. After finishing 12th in the shot put and 11th in the high jump the day prior, the sophomore athlete rallied to win back to back events on day two. His win in the 60m hurdles was in 8.54 seconds, a new personal best. He followed that up with a win in the pole vault, finishing ahead of the field with a 4.30m vault. He took 16th in the 1000m run en route to a second place finish in the heptathlon.
Sophomore
Nahom Tsegaye set a new personal best in the weight throw with a 15.00m toss for seventh place. Senior
Matthew Carey finished third in the shot put with a 14.03m to round out the throwing events for Tufts.
Junior
Sahr Matturi kicked off the field events with a bang, winning the long jump with a 6.92m, the 46th longest jump in the NCAA Division III. First year
Luke Benson was just behind him in second place with a 6.68, improving his personal best by five centimeters. Matturi also took third in the triple jump with a 13.35m.
First year
Alejandro Rincon matched his highest career finish by taking third in the pole vault with a 3.90m. Sophomore
Sami Witta continued his winning streak by taking the top spot on the podium in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.95m for the 52nd best mark in the NCAA Division III. Senior
Edward Kiboma also cleared the 1.95 mark, although it was on his third try, landing him in second place.
On the track, the Jumbos began the day with a fourth place finish through Cameron Mcleod in the 60m hurdles. His 8.77 was just a tenth off his personal best and two tenths behind the winner.
Senior
Noah Turner earned his first win of the 2025 season, taking first place in the 400m dash with a 50.28. First year
Sebastian Cohen was behind him in third, finishing with a 50.99 for a new personal best time. Sophomore
Sam Kurian took second place in the 600m dash in his first go at the event, finishing with a 1:22.58 behind Ben Davis of Amherst.
Junior Will Cusato led a trio of Jumbos through the 1000m run as he took second, sophomore
Meba Henok took third and first year
Liam Lucas took fourth. Cusato set a new personal best time with a finish in 2:29.85. Henok set a new personal best with a 2:31.75 and Lucas achieved a new personal best as well with a 2:33.35.
Sophomore
Jonah Reisner earned another podium for Tufts with a third place finish in the mile. He smashed his personal record by setting a time of 4:17.61, slashing his previous best by nearly 12 seconds.
Juniors
Amokrane Aouchiche and
Quinn Hampson finished the day for the Jumbos in the 3000m run. Aouchiche took second place with a new personal best of 8:29.67, setting the 76th fastest time in the NCAA Division III. Hampson was just a few lengths behind his teammate, also setting a new personal best in third place with an 8:36.82.
The Jumbos will head back into town this coming weekend to compete in the David Hemry Valentine Invitational at Boston University. Competition begins Friday afternoon at 3:00 pm.
