Men's Track and Field

Tufts Takes Third in DIII New England Championships

BOSTON, MA (March 1, 2025) - The Tufts University men's indoor track and field team took third place in the Division III New England Championships at The TRACK at New Balance in a performance featuring the Jumbos depth in all events as they totalled 82 points after competition ended Saturday.

The first event to enter the books was the 60m hurdle finals which saw junior Josh Wilkie as the lone Tufts representative. He finished fifth to score the first points of day two for the Jumbos, and finished in 8.34, just 0.11 seconds off of his personal best in the event. A great start to the competition, Wilkie set the tone for the rest of day two.

Sophomore Jonah Reisner was the next Jumbo to earn points on the track, as he finished in seventh place in the 3000m run. He finished in 8:24.70 to pick up a pair of important points in the team tally.

Tufts earned their first podium of the day in the 4x800m relay. The squad of sophomore Meba Henok, junior William Cusato, sophomore Sam Kurian and sophomore Ryan Regan finished in second place with a time of 7:44.81, just two seconds off of the school record. Tufts took second in the final relay of the day as well. The squad of first year Miles Sandoski, sophomore Brady Kamali, junior Josh Wilkie and senior Noah Turner finished as runners up in the relay with a time of 3:17.09, again just about two seconds off of the school record. Both relays gave huge boosts to the Jumbos point total, and sophomore Ryder Kropiwnicki compounded that boost in the heptathlon.

Kropiwnicki began the heptathlon with a fourth place finish in the 60m dash en route to a fourth place finish overall. He took fifth in the long jump and finished 11th in the shot put before taking 10th in the high jump. He claimed first place in the 60m hurdles with an 8.55, then followed the victory by taking second in the pole vault and setting a personal best in the 1000m run with a 3:06.01 to secure fourth place in the event.

First year Luke Benson took second place in the triple jump with a 14.16m, just ahead of junior Sahr Matturi in third. Matturi jumped for a 13.87m, 13 centimeters ahead of the next best jumper.

Tufts also saw a school record fall yesterday, as Ryan Regan ran for a 1:20.00 in the 600m run. It was an improvement of the previous record by a single tenth of a second.

The Jumbos finished the day with 82 points to secure third place in the Division III New England Championships behind second place M.I.T. and first place champions Amherst.

Tufts had a fantastic weekend and now carry great momentum going into the NEICAAA Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track and Field Center on Friday with competition beginning at 1:00 pm.
