CAMBRIDGE / BOSTON, MA (January 30, 2026) - Seniors
Sahr Matturi,
Josh Wilkie and
Tre Williams along with sophomore
Luke Benson and freshman
Jonas Michael all won events on Friday as the Tufts University men's indoor track & field team competed at both the Harvard Invitational and the Reggie Open.
Michael won the pole vault at Harvard with a mark of 4.80m (15'9") that ranks him third all-time indoors at Tufts. After success at that height, he went for the indoor school record with three attempts at 4.90m (16'0 ¾"). However, he was not able to clear the bar. His 4.80m mark is among the national top 15 for Division III as of Friday afternoon.
Matturi went 7.02m (23'0 ½") to win the long jump at the Reggie Open, held at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center. It's a top 30 DIII distance early in the weekend. Benson also had an early-season top 30 distance of 14.14m (46'4 ¾") to win the triple jump at the Reggie Open.
Williams' 15.78m (51'9 ¼") heave won the weight throw and is a new PR. He PR'd in the shot put as well, where his 14.10m (46'3 ¼") was third at the Reggie meet. Early on at the Reggie Open, Wilkie earned Tufts' first win in the 60-meter hurdles. He ran a time of 8.41 seconds to qualify for the final, and then won it with a time of 8.43 seconds.
The Jumbos had two of the top three finishers in the high jump and 3,000 meters at the Reggie Open. Freshman
Tieren Mead cleared 1.95m (6'4 ¾") for runner-up honors in the high jump, while junior
Sami Witta had the same best mark for third place (more misses at the last cleared height breaks the tie). For the 3,000 meters, freshman
Jack Moretta was the runner-up (9:02.44) while senior
Matt Burdulis PR'd with a 9:09.98 for third place.
Junior
Charles Fitzpatrick ran third for the 200 meters at the Reggie Open, where his time of 23.09 seconds was an indoor career-best. Senior
Martin Decker was third behind Williams in the weight throw, landing a 15.13m (49'7 ¾") mark. Freshman
Jaival Kang's 13.38m (43'10 ¾") was third in the TJ, while sophomore
Tejus Verma also had a third in the 400 meters (51.56).
Among other Jumbo performances today, freshman
Zachary Tang timed 7.14 seconds in the 60-meter dash finals to place fourth at the Reggie Open. Also there, classmate
Collett Kinobe was fourth behind Matturi in the long jump with 6.74m (22'1 ½") distance. Another fourth was registered by freshman
William Cipollone in the shot put (13.91m/45'7 ¾").
Neither of today's meets included team scoring.
The Jumbos will be right back at it on Saturday in action at the John Thomas Terrier Classic hosted by Boston University.
