BOSTON, MA (February 6, 2026) - Junior
Selin Tuncay swam a top 10 time in NESCAC for the 500 freestyle as the Tufts University women's swimming & diving team began its weekend at the Boston Winter Open (BWO) hosted by Boston University.
Tuncay finished in a 5:07.12 time for the 500 free that is currently ninth in the conference as of Friday night. She was sixth in the race which was made up of primarily Division I contestants.
Jumbos swam four PR's as well on Friday night, including two in the 50 freestyle. First-years
Iris Paek (24.33) and
Kate Urdaneta (24.44) were fifth and sixth out of 40 entries in the 50 free tonight, respectively, with their career-best marks. First-year
Abby Davis was also a solid 14th in the race with her 24.82 touch.
Tufts had two swim time trials tonight and both recorded PR's. Sophomore
Alya Hocaoglu timed 59.55 seconds in the 100 backstroke and junior
Alexia Palko-Lacerda recorded a 50 butterfly mark of 26.93 seconds.
Also tonight, sophomore
Anna Gjervold led two Tufts entries in the 200 individual medley with a 2:12.17 mark for eighth place ut of 21 swimmers. The Jumbos also swam a 400 freestyle relay, with Davis, Paek, first-year
Aila Howson and Urdaneta recording a 3:36.83 mark.
One-meter diving was also contested tonight. Out of 12 divers, Tufts junior
Arya Gupta placed third with a 253.10 score for six dives.
The Jumbos will return to BU for day two of the BWO on Saturday, with sessions at 12 Noon and 6:00 PM. More time trials are scheduled as well.
