BOSTON, MA (February 7, 2025) - First-year
Abby Davis swam Tufts' fastest 100 backstroke of the season as the women's swimming & diving team competed on day two of the Boston Winter Open Saturday at Boston University.
Davis' time of 56.11 seconds in the 100 back is an NCAA B cut and is the #2 time in NESCAC as well as a national top 20 mark as of Saturday night. The mark places her third all-time at Tufts in the event.
Two swimming sessions, the three-meter diving competition and time trials were held on Saturday at BU.
In the 200 medley relay during today's afternoon session, Davis also led off with a 26.35 50 backstroke leg that is her PR. The foursome finished at 1:48.57 as Davis was joined by first-year
Aila Howson, first-year
Iris Paek and first-year
Kate Urdaneta.
Senior
Malia Leung won the three-meter diving event with a 262.00 score in six dives. Tufts junior
Arya Gupta was third (244.20) out of the 10 individuals in the event.
Competing primarily against Division I opponents, Tufts' other top-five individual finishes today came from sophomore
Anna Gjervold in the 400 individual medley (4:40.53), junior
Selin Tuncay in the 200 freestyle (1:54.94) and Howson in the 200 breaststroke (2:26.21).
In Saturday evening's time trials, junior
Alexia Palko-Lacerda hit her PR in the 50 backstroke with a 24.73 finish.
Next up for the Jumbos is the 2026 NESCAC Championships starting Thursday at Wesleyan University.
