SMITHFIELD, RI (March 27, 2026) – Senior
Randy Hamilton broke the school record in the javelin throw and several other Jumbos joined him in posting nationally-ranked marks early in the outdoor season as the Tufts men's track & field team competed at the Jaylin Rainford Invitational at Bryant University on Friday.
Originally scheduled as a two-day meet, the entire event was held on Friday due to cold temperatures predicted for Saturday. In the team scoring, Tufts placed fourth out of 14 teams by scoring 71 points.
Last week, Hamilton launched himself into the #2 ranking at Tufts for the javelin with a 61.80m (202'9") mark. Today, he took over the #1 spot with a distance of 62.78m (205'11") to win the event out of 19 competitors including several from Division I. Hamilton broke the seven-year old Tufts record of 61.85m (202'11") held by Henry Hintermeister since 2019.
Freshman
Jack Davis won a pair of events for the Jumbos today. His time of 10.86 seconds in the 100 meters was first among 27 participants. He broke into the Tufts top 10 for the event, and it is an early DIII Top 50 time. He also won the 200 meters out of 37 finishers with a 21.78 mark that is #5 at Tufts and #23 in the nation.

Brady Kamali's 22.74 placed eighth and he was also the runner-up out of 19 entries in the 400 meters (50.55). Fitzpatrick had another PR in the 200 (22.75).
The Jumbos ran their first 10,000 meters of the spring season at Bryant and had several good early- season times. Freshman
Ben Hester led Tufts at a 31:09.96 mark for eighth at the meet and the #4 national ranking for the event. Freshman

Freshman
Jonas Michael made his outdoor debut in the pole vault and recorded a 4.35m (14'3 ¼") best mark for fourth place and a #34 national ranking. Freshman
Lucas Klein ran Tufts' first 3000-meter steeplechase today and just missed scoring with a ninth-place mark of 10:14.26 that is 40th nationally.
Tufts had three scorers in the long jump today with senior
Casey Lambert fifth with a 6.52m (21'4 ¾"), freshman
Collett Kinobe seventh at 6.43m (21'1 ¼") and freshman Jaival King in eighth (6.40m – 21'0"). Senior
Tre Williams added two team points with a seventh in the shot put, heaving the ball 13.75m (45'1 ½").
Freshman
Jonathan Bailey had a 15.48 time in the 110-meter hurdles that was third in the meet and just missed improving upon his national ranking in the event.

Joey Papanicholas in the 1500 (4:04.23 for 10th), junior
Matthew Asaeda in the hammer throw (46.28m – 151'10") and junior
Nahom Tsegaye for the discus throw (34.85m – 114'4").
Other PR's on Friday were earned by sophomore
Liam Lucas in the 1500 meters (4:07.71) and sophomore
Dylan Moreno in the javelin throw (38.42m – 126'0").
The Jumbos will be at the Amherst Spring Fling next Saturday.
