Lambert Wins Long Jump as Men's Track & Field Begins New England DIII Championships

SPRINGFIELD, MA (May 1, 2026) – Senior Casey Lambert became the first Jumbo to win a New England Division III outdoor long jump title in 21 years today as the Tufts University men's track & field team started at the regional championship meet hosted by Springfield College.

Lambert won the long jump with a PR of 7.25m (23'9 ½"), also the team's best mark of the season which improved on his Tufts #5 all-time standing. The distance is at #17 in the nation as of Friday evening. Lambert is the first Jumbo to win the long jump at the New England Division III Outdoor Championships since Fred Jones in 2005.

The win by Lambert led a strong overall performance by the Jumbos in the long jump today. Tufts scored 17 of its 21 team points in the event, as freshman Jaival Kang was third (7.05m – 23'1 ½") and senior Sahr Matturi placed eighth (6.89m – 22'7 ¼"). Kang's mark was the best of his freshman season, ranks him #9 at Tufts outdoors and snuck into the national top 50.

Tufts' 21 team points is second at the meet after six events were completed on Friday. The Jumbos are behind first-place Fitchburg State University, who leads with a 36 score. Colby College is in third place (19).

Jumbo senior Martin Decker had a seventh-place heave of 51.55m (169'2") in the 24-man hammer throw today. Freshman William Cipollone in the javelin throw (53.53m – 175'7") and sophomore Lucas Chang in the 10,000 meters (32:46.69) both added eighth-place finishes for the team.

In the preliminaries of the 110-meter hurdles, freshman Jonathan Bailey qualified for Saturday's final with a time of 14.96 seconds.

Tufts has two of the top five in the 12-man decathlon after five events today. Sophomore Dylan Moreno is third with a 3274 score, and junior Ryder Kropiwnicki is fifth at 3169 points. Moreno's time of 51.57 seconds was second in the field for the 400 meters, while he also ran an 11.48 PR in the 100 meters. Kropiwnicki had a PR in all five events, led by an 11.41 in the 100 and a 6.48m (21'3") long jump.

Saturday's action at the New England DIII Outdoor Championships begins at 9:30 AM.
