The results of the first varsity eight race at the NIRC Championships will determine the conference champion, as the NESCAC team with the fastest 1V8 mark will win the title. The men's champion will be awarded the conference's automatic qualifier bid to the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championship Regatta.

The Jumbos are rowing for their first-ever conference championship this year. The team was third in NESCAC last year, fourth in 2024 and third in 2023. Trinity College is the defending conference champion.

Tufts has six entries in Sunday's NIRC overall. Along with the first varsity eight, Jumbos will race in the second, third and fourth varsity races, as well as a varsity four event where two Tufts teams will compete. The first and second varsity results will count significantly towards a possible at-large berth into IRA's if the Jumbos do not win the NESCAC Championship. The regatta begins at 8:20 AM.

The Jumbos won the NIRC Points Trophy last spring, emblematic of the best overall team performance at the regatta. Tufts' fourth varsity won the NIRC grand final, while the 1V8 was third, the second varsity was second and the third varsity placed third. The Jumbos also had a pair of boats in the varsity four race, with their V4A winning.

At the New England Rowing Championships at Lake Quinsigamond last Saturday, Tufts won the Points Trophy with a fifth in the 1V8, second in the 2V8, first in the 3V8, third in the 4V8, second in the 1V4 and first in the 2V4. The Jumbos were fourth among NESCSAC teams behind Trinity, Wesleyan and Williams in the 1V8.

The projected lineups for the Jumbos on Sunday are as follows:
