CRANSTON, R.I. - The Tufts University women's sailing team placed ninth out of 10 teams at the Dellenbaugh Trophy hosted by Brown University on Saturday and Sunday. The regatta is the New England Women's Team Racing Championship.
The Jumbos compiled a 3-6 record in the opening round-robin. Tufts defeated Connecticut College, Dartmouth and MIT while losing to Boston College, Bowdoin, Brown, Harvard, Roger Williams and Yale. They had finishes of first, second and fifth for their best performance against Connecticut College, and went 1-2-6 versus MIT.
Tufts was one of eight teams to advance to a second round, but lost all seven of their races there and did not move on the third round (six teams). Due to their .188 overall winning percentage with a 3-13 record, Tufts placed ninth behing Roger Williams (2-7, .222) in the final standings.
Sailing for the Jumbos were the pairs of seniors Abbie Carlson (skipper) with Mallory Hood (crew), seniors Alexandra Talbot (skipper) with Hailey McKelvie (crew) and junior Chloe Holder (skipper) with senior crew Paige Tyler (pictured).
Boston College won the New England Team Racing title with a 18-3 record. Host Brown (14-7) was the runner-up.
