Senior Ian Goldberg had a pair of hits and scored a run for Tufts

GREENSBORO, NC - Host Greensboro College scored five times in the first three innings and then held on for a 6-4 victory against Tufts University in non-conference baseball action under the lights at War Memorial Stadium on Tuesday night.
Two first-inning runs were unearned as the Pride took an early lead. After senior 2B Quinn Finnegan singled home a run in the second, GC scored twice in the third on a bases-loaded walk by senior pitcher Michael Manfro and on a double-play ball. The Jumbos had scored once in the third when senior LF Ian Goldberg (Lake Forest, IL) led off with a double and scored on a single by senior 2B Frank Petroskey (Dallas, TX).
Down 5-1, the Jumbos closed the margin with single unearned runs in the sixth and seventh to make it 5-3. Senior RF Chase Rose (Paradise Valley, AZ) hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh. The Pride added to their lead with an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth, courtesy of a Manfro single. Junior DH Matt Collins (Hopkinton, MA) singled home a run in the top of the ninth to pull Tufts within 6-4. However, with the tying runs on first and second, a double-play ended the game.
Manfro picked up the victory allowing five hits and one earned run in 5.1 innings. He also drove home two runs. Junior SS Reynel Pena scored twice for the Pride, while Finnegan was 2 for 3 with an rbi.
Petroskey finished 3 for 4 for Tufts, while Goldberg and Collins both had two hits. Junior Kevin Gilchrist (Medford, MA) suffered the pitching loss, giving up four hits and two earned runs in five innings. Freshman Dean Lambert (Cross River, NY) had a two-inning stint of one-hit, no-run relief.
Tufts, playing its second game of the day following a 13-6 victory at Averett earlier, dropped to 3-2 on their spring trip. The Jumbos are back at it on Wednesday with their annual game against Methodist. Greensboro is currently riding a five game winning streak heading into its game against Emory & Henry on Thursday.
